The Chinese Ministry of Commerce is highly concerned about the bill passed by the US Congress of Representatives on the ban of Chinese poultry imports. The ministry intends to appeal to WTO to address the issue. Nearly 100 people’s representatives from Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and Guangdong have jointly submitted a bill to the Chinese People’s Congress appealing for an immediate ban of US poultry.

China’s poultry imports from the USA exceed China’s exports to the USA by a big margin. China exported 168,000 MT poultry meat and offal in 2008, mostly to Hong Kong and Malaysia. But China’s imports of poultry meat and offal hit 832,900 MT in 2008, of which 610,000 MT were from the USA, 4% and 14% more than the previous year respectively.
