From the perspective of import volume of different categories of products, except for cheese, the import of milk powder, whey product, milk fat, yogurt and fresh milk rose by different margins in October. During the first ten months of 2008, the import of whey products stood at 169,987 tons, up 27.55% from same period last year, of which, the import in October was 22,375 tons, up 115.86% from same period last year. The aggregate milk powder import (only including skimmed powder, whole powder and sweet whole powder) recorded 72,237 tons, down by 5.51% from same period last year, of which the import in October was 7,570 tons, up 17.22% from same period last year. Of which, the import of skimmed powder and whole powder differed greatly, the import of skimmed powder rose significantly due to the falling of importation price, whereas the import of whole powder dwindled remarkably during the first nine months pursuant to the rising of importation price. The import of whole powder in October rallied quickly thanks to the slide of the price in New Zealand. During the first ten months, the aggregate import of skimmed powder registered 47,063 tons, up 42.89% from same period last year, of which the import in October was 3,267 tons, up 94.44% from same period last year. The aggregate import of light whole powder was 23,303 tons, down by 39.51% from same period last year, of which the import in October was 3,546 tons, down by 22.4% from same period last year. The aggregate import of sweet whole powder was 1,871 tons, down by 62.5% from same period last year.
During the first ten months of 2008, China imported 11,799 tons of cheese, up 7.48% from same period last year, milk fat import, 10,510 tons, down by 5.32% from same period last year, of which the import of cheese in October amounted to 947 tons, down by 9.77% from same period last year, the import of milk fat, 1,042 tons, up 38.01% from same period last year. During the first ten months, the import of fresh milk hit 5,220 tons, up 60.58% from same period last year, the import of yogurt, 590 tons, down by 5.42% from same period last year.
