The State Bureau of Environmental Protection has recently issued a notice, stating its decision to eliminate backward alcohol, citric acid and monosodium glutamate production lines, technology and enterprises if they prove to be below standards.

In the eleventh five-year period, China plans to eliminate 1.6 million MT backward alcohol productive capacity, 80,000 MT citric acid capacity and 200,000 MT monosodium capacity so as to cut oxygen consumption by 1.242 million MT in these industries. Monosodium glutamate producers each with a capacity below 30,000 MT/year must be closed down.

BOABC considers that the policy may incur restructuring in alcohol, citric acid and monosodium glutamate industries. Many small enterprises are likely to be annexed by large ones.
