In August 2007, China imported 136,134 tons sugar, 2,375 tons or 1.78% more from the 133,759 tons in August 2006. In August, the import was still mainly raw cane sugar and white granulated sugar. The import of raw cane sugar was 111,167 tons, and mainly from Cuba, Australia and Brazil, white granulated sugar import was 24,707 tons, and mainly from Korea Rep and India. By the end of August, China has imported 826,800 tons of sugar, up 4.66% YOY.
China exported 5,638 tons of sugar in August, 30,730 tons or 84.5% less than the 36,368 tons in same period last year. In the month, the export was mainly white granulated sugar and other unlisted sugar, registering 2,847 tons and 2,347 tons respectively. And the export of white granulated sugar and other unlisted sugar mainly went to Hong Kong.
