According to the State Statistics Bureau, China’s production of pork, beef, mutton and poultry meat registered 35.8 million MT in the first half of this year, an increase of 6.3% on the year-on-year basis. Of the total, pork production was 23.63 million MT, 8.1% more than the same period of last year. Hog production and inventory increased 7.9% and 3.9% in the first half of this year.
Fresh meat and frozen meat production by medium and large slaughterhouses recorded 7.26 million MT and 1.16 million MT in Jan. ~ June, up 39.5% and 24% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
Subject to economic recession, meat consumption declined this year. Illegal slaughter is rampant, affecting the business of qualified slaughterhouses.
