Domestic sugar price was on a downward slope in March, the spot price in Nanning fell from 3,700 yuan/ton in the beginning of the month to 3,470 yuan/ton on the 25th. During the same period of time, the international price was also on the decline, falling from 15 US cents to below 12 US cents.

The price stabilized a little bit in the beginning of March thanks to the procurement for the national reserve. However, the attitude on macro control from the Government, revealed at the workshop in Liuzhou, and the data on production and selling, revealed at the same time, exposed the pressure from merchandize on hand, and the price kept on falling. The price fell to 3,470 yuan/ton on March 25th, down by 230 yuan/ton. During the same period of time, the international price surpassed 15 US cents on March 3rd thanks to mobilization from funds, the highest in 7 months. And the price fell below 12 US cents in late March attributable to the price trend of other commodities and the exchange rate of USD.
