Due to serious occurrence of pests and diseases and agriculture support policy, pesticide demand keeps increasing steadily. The Ministry of Agriculture predicted that cumulative pesticide demand would hit 313,600 tons in 2009, up 5.2%. Detailed figures are as follows: Expected insecticide demand is 152,700 tons, up 8.55%, including 95,900 tons of Organophosphorus Pesticides, 10,200 tons of Carbamate Pesticide, 4,472 tons of Pyrethroids, up 8.21%, 30% and 1.94% respectively. 31,600 tons of other insecticides, up 5.22%, 10,600 tons of Acaricide, almost unchanged over 2008.
Demand on fungicide is 799,000 tons, up 5.14%, and herbicide demand will be 77,100 tons, same as 2008. Plant growth regulator will be 3,210 tons, up 3.37%.
