China’s average producer’s price of hogs, broilers and eggs registered RMB13.36/kg, RMB7.25/kg and RMB5.6/kg respectively in the first week of this year, up 2%, 3% and 5% respectively over late Dec., a result of brisk consumption during the New Year festival.
Under such prices, hog farms can make a profit of RMB100/head, broiler farms gain a profit of RMB1.2/bird and egg farms attain a break-even level.
It is predicted that after the Spring Festival hog price may drop, broiler price may keep going up due to rising production cost and slim supply, but egg price may drop amid a market surplus.
