>>BOABC Insights

Hong Kong and Guangzhou have recently found melamine in eggs produced by Dalian Hanwei Group, one of the famous egg producers in China with an annual egg production of 60,000 MT.

This melamine egg incident is likely to lead to a decline of egg consumption. Last year when Sudan Red Dye was found in duck eggs produced in Baoding District, Hebei, duck egg sales went down substantially.

China has about ten high-quality egg producers whose production adds up to 200,000 MT a year and many regional pollution-free egg producers. But there are no state criteria for these high-quality or pollution-free eggs so far. The melamine egg incident may speed up the adoption of relevant criteria.
