Hog price has kept going south since March this year. The current hog production cost is RMB13.61/kg and retail price is RMB13.48/kg. Compared with the same period of last year, hog production cost has added 52% but hog price has slumped 13%.

The returns from hog production were at the break-even level in Sept. but the current price induces a loss of RMB10/head. This time last year, hog production generated a profit of RMB460/head.

BOABC predicts that hog price may pick up in the next few months.
