The State Council held a meeting on June 19 and adopted a series of measures to boost hog production:
First, increasing subsidy to brood sows from RMB50/head to RMB100/head next year. Second, allocating RMB2.5 billion for the construction of standardized hog farms. Third, improving the shipment and auction of state-reserved corn to curb feed price upsurge. Fourth, improving financial service to ensure loans to hog farms. Fifth, establishing hog production alert system and information-issuing system.
So far, hog production alert system is set up only in Sichuan. The establishment of this system in the nation may help prevent drastic fluctuations in the hog market.
