The State Council held a meeting on July 9 on the development of GMO biological varieties. The meeting concluded that GMO research is significant in developing new biological varieties, increasing agricultural production and farmers’ income and enhancing China’s agricultural competitiveness in the world.

The goal of GMO research is a number of genes with intellectual property right and genes to be applied to agricultural production. New biological varieties capable of high yield, high quality, pest-resistance and contravariance are to be developed.

BOABC holds that, against the backdrop of global grain price hike, China’s decision to develop GMO farm products will help step up the nation’s farm production.
