According to the customs, there were no corn exports in May, but exports recorded 28,000 MT in the same period of last year. China exported only 89,500 MT corn in the first five months of this year, a collapse of 97.4% on the year-on-year basis.
The collapse was attributable to swelling cost of production, increasingly tight corn supply in the domestic market and expectation of corn price hike in the future. It is likely that China may import large quantities of corn in the future.
