According to statistics, China’s yarn production registered 1.8148 million MT in April, 3% more than the month before and 12.67% more than the same period of last year. Yarn production totaled 6.387 million MT in Jan. ~ April, an increase of 11.5% on the year-on-year basis. Yarn production in the crop year totaled 15.249 million MT, an increase of 10.9% on the year-on-year basis.

By BOABC’s calculation mode, cotton consumption was 1.048 million MT in April, 3.7045 million MT in Jan. ~ April and 8.966 million MT in the crop year. Taking into account of cotton exports, consumption by small textile mills and consumption for various uses, total cotton consumption is estimated to be 9.17 million MT in the crop year.

Calculating by cotton consumption in March and April, cotton consumption may reach 12.29 million MT by July this year.

Cotton production and imports added up to about 9.466 million MT in 2007/2008 by the end of April. Deducting consumption and waste, the inventory of new cotton in 2007/2008 was 296,000 MT at the end of April. Taking into account of 1.986 million MT carryin from last year, cotton inventory totaled 2.282 million MT at the end of April.
